Acupuncture

Omni Physical & Aquatic Therapy offers acupuncture as part of its musculoskeletal care. Very fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points on the body to help relieve pain and muscle tension, and treatment is coordinated with chiropractic care and rehabilitation on one plan of care.

Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile, single-use needles placed at specific points on the body. It is commonly used to help relieve pain, ease muscle tension, and support recovery from musculoskeletal injuries, and many patients find sessions relaxing.

At Omni, acupuncture is not a standalone clinic visit. It is offered alongside chiropractic care and rehabilitation, so the same team that evaluates your condition decides with you whether acupuncture belongs in your plan of care. Dr. James Davis, for example, has long combined conservative care, rehabilitation, and acupuncture to treat musculoskeletal injuries, including post-surgical rehabilitation, sports injuries, personal injury, and workers' compensation cases.

Your care starts the way every Omni service does: a health history, an examination, and a diagnosis. If acupuncture is a fit for your condition, your provider will explain what to expect and how it works together with the rest of your treatment.

What acupuncture can help with

  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Muscle tension and trigger points
  • Joint pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Recovery support after surgery or injury

What to expect at your first session

Acupuncture needles are much finer than the needles used for injections, and most patients feel little or no discomfort when they are placed. Your provider will talk you through the treatment, place the needles, and let them work while you rest. Afterward you can generally return to your normal activities right away.

Because acupuncture at Omni is part of a coordinated plan, your provider tracks how you respond and adjusts the mix of acupuncture, hands-on treatment, and exercise over the course of your care.

Acupuncture — frequently asked questions

Does acupuncture hurt?
Most patients feel little or no discomfort. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections or blood draws, and many patients describe sessions as relaxing. Your provider will check in with you throughout the treatment.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance, and do I need a referral?
Coverage for acupuncture varies by insurance plan, and some plans have their own referral requirements. Call the Omni office nearest you and our staff will verify your coverage and let you know exactly what your plan requires before your first visit.
How does acupuncture fit with chiropractic care or physical therapy?
Acupuncture at Omni is one tool within a coordinated plan of care. Your provider may combine it with chiropractic adjustment, soft-tissue treatment, rehabilitation exercises, or other modalities depending on your condition and goals, and the team adjusts the plan as you progress.
